Muscle Activation Techniques® (MAT)
- Reduce muscle pain due to tightness, weakness & inflammation
- Restore strength lost to injury, stress, trauma, and overuse
- Increase muscle strength & improve athletic performance
A MAT Specialist
identifies positional weaknesses, and addresses the specific muscles responsible for those weaknesses. This opens restricted ranges of motion, and reduces the muscular imbalances associated with pain and tightness.
MAT is based on the sciences of biomechanics and neurology. MAT complements physical exercise, injury rehabilitation, pilates, yoga, and other forms of bodywork.
Muscle Activation Techniques is developed & created by Greg Roskopf. Greg is currently the biomechanics consultant for the Denver Broncos and the Utah Jazz.
The MAT Session
Muscular imbalances contribute to injury. MAT takes a systematic approach to evaluating and addressing muscular
imbalances. By using a biomechanical approach, this system uncovers the
mechanical causes of the problems which lead to muscular pain and injury. It
eliminates the weak links that would otherwise be magnified by exercise
or everyday activities. MAT follows a two step process:
Step One
At the start of each session, a series of 'range of
motion' tests are performed to uncover the specific limitations in your
joint motion. These limitations indicate where your body is protecting
itself the most. This exam will identify the asymmetry in your body
caused by the muscular imbalances.
Step Two
Once positional weaknesses are identified, those
muscles related to the position are tested using highly specialized
tests to identify muscle weakness. If a muscle tests weak, direct
manual pressure is applied to the origin and insertion of the inhibited
muscle. Alternatively, corrective isometrics are employed to reinforce
the muscle contraction. These corrective procedures are used to return
stability and mobility to the body.
